A Difference of Ten

Where did it go?
The cute 5 year old no more.
Those hugs, those eyes, adoring,
Now challenge, argue, defy.

I, once seen as queen,
Merely serve,
Taxi driver, cook, housemaid.

What happened to playmate?
What happened to fun?
What happened to sharing
Tender moments and love.

Ah...the teenage caricature emerged,
Hissing, spitting, demanding rights
Twisting truth,
Aching to fight.

Respect dismissed,
Passion free,
Anger, scorn, spite,
Hurt to receive.

Hateful words
Charge the battle for power,
Vying needs to control
Turn relationship sour.

Rebel yell!
You or me?
At 30 years older
Has to be, my mission
To find equanimity.

  1. It sounds like you have had a hard and tireing journey, and it is time to sit and play, having fun with your playmates and be a queen again for day.

  2. Sounds like a dark day. Like that you are Nina and you have every right to be . Its a lovely name and the Ninas I have known have been fun and strong, forged in the crucible of uncertainty and the tough school of life. :) Take it from one who knows, the teenage years are eventually worth it! You have promoted independence of thought, its always a bit of a challenge when that bounces back and begins to challenge you!! Must be doing a good job : )
